Set in Calabria, in southern Italy, the book focuses on the exploits of Strega Nona. It was one of the "Top 100 Picture Books" of all time in a 2012 poll by School Library Journal. The book, which is likely dePaola's best-known work, was published in 1975 and won a Caldecott Honor in 1976. Big Anthony causes the title character's magic pasta pot to create so much pasta that it nearly floods and buries a town. It concerns Strega Nona (resembling what would be "Grandma Witch" in Italian, although this would actually be "Nonna Strega", with the two words inverted and the first one spelled with a double n) and her helper, Big Anthony. If considered as a folktale, the story is Aarne-Thompson type 565, the Magic Mill. Strega Nona is a children's picturebook written and illustrated by Tomie dePaola. Mix it all together over a medium heat until spinach has wilted and sauce has thickened slightly.Cover with correct "an original tale." subtitle Add the sauce to the cooked pasta pot along with your spinach and leftover butternut squash.If you want it cheesier, add more nutritional yeast if you think the sauce is too thick, add more almond milk. Blend the cheese sauce until lovely and smooth, then adjust the flavor as you see fit.Once cooked, add 1 cup of the squash to a blender along with the other cheese sauce ingredients – vegan butter, almond milk, cornstarch, nutritional yeast, dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon juice, sea salt, pepper, chickpea miso and, paprika.Drain and set aside until the sauce is ready. Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil and cook your pasta for the required amount of time shown on packet.Check the “bacon” bits regularly throughout the cooking time as they can catch and burn easily. Once well-coated, add the bacon bits to a lined tray and place in the oven for 10 minutes or until crispy. Stir all the ingredients together in a bowl. While the butternut squash is cooking, prepare your “bacon” bits. Cook for about 45 minutes or until butternut squash is tender. Drizzle olive oil over the pieces and season with salt and pepper.
