It has an expansive battle game with three "difficulty settings" which basically boil down to revamped versions of Super/Super 2, Super 3, and Super 4 (same characters and all, but with some new stuff). Party Edition does support 5 players with a multitap. Of the ones you listed, I would recommend '94 for a good basic battle game, Super 3 for a very nice well-rounded battle game (all the classic features without the really wild stuff), and Super 5 for a game like Super 3 but with some more unique power-ups that might not be to everybody's tastes. It's free though so you may as well try it out. R Online (the Stadia game) fixes some of R's problems but content-wise, is a downgrade. Very happy and appreciative to see anyone’s opinions and experiences on all of these matters. Any advice or counsel in that regard is appreciated.īut going deeper : for five players with classic gameplay, the options are:īomberman Party Edition (appears to support 5 but maybe only with a forced COM player?)Īre there standouts among these? Are they meaningfully better than the Switch game?Īnd I see the Stadia game may be coming to Switch. Obviously (or maybe not?), I’d love to figure out Saturn Bomberman, though it isn’t clear to me that such a box could emulate Saturn well enough, and even if it could I don’t know that I could get ten controllers properly connected. I’m also considering building an emulation box (Pi4, maybe might go x86), and grabbing a pile of wireless controllers. Lots of games support 5, and we could easily raise that crowd. It is also limited to 4 players, and I know more is easily done. But the reviews of that game, even for multiplayer, are lackluster. The path of least resistance is to just grab Super Bomberman R on the Switch and be done with it. My history with the franchise largely consists of ~three(?) consecutive years (middle school, basically) where my birthday party centered on renting the multitap and Super Bomberman together from Blockbuster, and playing all night. I’m looking forward to having people over again in the hopefully-near future, and I’m also looking to introduce my 7-year-old son (and his friends/their dads?) to multiplayer Bomberman.
